A trip to LBI

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

On Saturday my sister and I took Sarah and Maiya (two of the teens from our church) to Long Beach Island for the day. We had a great time! The weather was nice, the water was refreshing, and the air was beachy- my favorite! Two things stand out from our trip- swimming with sting rays and a wedding. While we were swimming the girls noticed a red something unusual in the water. When we questioned the lifeguard he told us that they were sting rays… not to worry because they won’t hurt us, but not to swim with them! What a scary yet neat experience! Later on in the day we stumbled upon a wedding on the beach. There were as many uninvited guests (in swim suits) as there were invited guests! My sister got in close and took some pictures! Congratulations Sarah and Brian, a random couple whose wedding we weren’t invited to but thought was lovely! Enjoy the wedding pictures!

25 years!

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

Today is the 25th wedding anniversary of Peter’s parents. Congratulations to them! Since I am not yet 25 I have no idea what it is like to experience 25 years of anything. The idea of being married to the same person for 25 years both excites me and scares me! It is exciting because in only a little over a year I will be marrying my best friend and the idea of spending 25 years (plus) with him and learning and growing together is what I dream about, but how will 25 years of learning and growing change us?

A bowl of cherries…

Cherry tomatoes that is! Freshly picked this morning is this lovely bowl of cherry tomatoes from my very own garden! This is my second harvest!

A miracle

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

Phineus is starting to get better. I noticed his color has improved. His fins have stopped rotting away- they haven’t started to grow back yet, however. He is eating more now and is a little more active. His water is also staying clearer longer. So maybe he is going to be ok. I stopped adding the latest drops to his water about a week ago because I think they were making it worse. Now I am adding the powder antibiotic again and changing his water ever other day. Seems to be helping!

First Fruits

The tomatoes have arrived! The other day I picked these four little guys and this morning I picked three more. Soon I will have more tomatoes than I know what to do with… only if the squirrels stop eating them. The squirrels took huge chunks out of four of my big green tomatoes.

Phin and Tomatoes

Friday, July 13th, 2007

Well, Phin has gotten worse. Today I took him to the pet store to see what I needed to do to make him better. They gave me yet another drop to add to his water. I have done everything for this fish! I relocated his bowl thinking his water was too cold. I have been changing his water twice a week. I gave him 10 days of antibiotics. What more is there to do? The weird thing is, despite his illness, he eats very aggressively. Hopefully the new drops will help.

This morning I checked on my tomato plants… I have my first orange tomato! He’s a little cherry tomato- hardly enough for a salad but maybe soon I will have lots of red tomatoes! Still no sign of green peppers.

I need suggestions, tips, HELP!

Saturday, July 7th, 2007

Ok, so apparently I attract sickly Betta fish! Phin, my new Betta fish, has been battling tail/fin rot for about 2-3 weeks now. Now, the experts say it is caused by dirty water. The fact that he has this problem is surprising because I change his water once or twice a week! So I buy an antibiotic and do what the instructions say… and still not better! Any advice on how to care for the little guy or any first hand experience that anyone would share with me?

Last week the cutest little fuzz ball of a kitten found Tony. Of course Tony named him Prongs, after a duck… which was named after a Mighty Ducks hockey player. Little Prongs (the cat) has since found a home in the Beninate’s backyard. He also wiggled his little way into Peter’s heart which resulted in him saying that we can get a kitten when we get married! Yay!

Tons of Tomatoes

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

Well, no green peppers to speak of, but plenty of green tomatoes! Hopefully soon they will start turning red!
