Oh the Blessings of Whooping Cough?

Friday, November 30th, 2007

This is an email I just recieved!

Dear BJU Student,

As a precaution to help contain the spread of Pertussis (whooping cough), first semester will end next Friday, Dec. 7. Please read completely through this e-mail so that you have the information you need on classes, exams, events through the next week and your departure for the holidays.

Classes and Exams
University classes will meet as scheduled on Monday and Tuesday next week. Tuesday will be the last day of classes for first semester.
Exams will begin on Wednesday and end on Friday.
A revised exam schedule will be posted on www.bju.edu/academics/exam1.html sometime this afternoon.
Each of your professors will inform you by 5 p.m. Monday about the nature of the final exam and any other alterations to class assignments.

Campus Departures
As was the case at the Thanksgiving break, you will be free to leave campus for the Christmas holidays after your last final exam whenever that occurs Wednesday through Friday.
Students who are unable to change travel reservations are welcome to stay in the residence halls through Dec. 13, the original holiday departure date.
For college students, Pertussis is an inconvenience, not a danger or threat. However, because Pertussis is highly contagious and all of you have contacts and families with young children and elderly people, we need to exercise precautions. We are in continual contact with the health department and are following and exceeding their recommendations. As of this morning, a total of 17 people have been diagnosed as confirmed or highly suspect cases, and many others have been checked some of whom have been treated with antibiotics as a precautionary measure.

Over the next few days, stay focused on your classes and final exams. If you develop symptoms between now and your departure next week, go to Barge right away for evaluation.

We will communicate additional information to you via e-mail as necessary over the next week.

The Church Plant Planted

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

Recently our friends Jonathan and Christy Matias, along with Jane Coates, moved up to the DC area to begin a church plant. They, along with several others, including Peter, will begin meeting for prayer and fellowship over the upcoming months to build relationships and unity. Pray for them as they seek direction and strength from the Lord. Here is a picture of Jonathan, Christy, Jane and me before they moved.
