A weekend in NJ

Monday, June 15th, 2009

Over the weekend we traveled to New Jersey to visit with our families and to celebrate my birthday with my twin sister and Father’s day with our dads.  Some of the weekends activities included basketball, eating (!), carrying heavy boxes, digging a six foot hole, and opening presents!

15 Ways to Save Money Buying Natural Foods

Friday, June 12th, 2009

Peter passed this article on to me in an email.

Organic foods: Are they safer? More nutritious?

Friday, June 12th, 2009 has a great article comparing conventional farming with organic farming.  The article also gives helpful information about the labeling of organic foods.

Reds v Nationals Game

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Last night we went to a baseball game with a group of friends… it started raining when we got there and the game was delayed due to thunder and lightening. After a couple of hours of hang out, we decided to leave becasue we thought the game would be canceled. Just as we reached our cars it stopped raining and we were told the game would go on.  Oh well!  We had fun anyway!

Here are some pictures!

Curiousity got the best of me

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

I proudly shop for my groceries at Wegmans, which is directly across the street from our apartment complex! (Talk about convenience!)  I will be very sad when our apartment lease is up and we move away from Wegmans.  On the Wegmans website there is this AWESOME shopping tool called “Shopping List”.  It is helpful in creating a weekly shopping list.  It includes prices and tells which department each item can be found .  I will be using it from now on for my shopping!  However, last night I used it to gather some info.  I made two lists with the same 18 items on each.  (Items that are usually on my shopping list.)  One list I made with only organic products and the other I made with non-organic products.  I then added up the prices to get a total amount.  The non-organic list came to a total of $34.16 and the organic list came to $60.93… a difference of $26.77.  (When Peter reads this post it will most definitely not help my case in wanting to “go organic”.) But  I wanted to know what the difference was, and I found out about a really cool tool in the process. To help my case, some of the items (ie:organic meat) were priced higher on the website then they are in the actual store. Also, some items (ie: milk and eggs) usually last us 2 weeks or more, so they wouldn’t be an every week expense.

Pomegranate Blueberry Juice News

I found this interesting article on deceptive labeling of Pomegranate Blueberry Juices.

Click here for the shopping guide.

We have been enjoying Minute Maid’s Pomegranate Blueberry juice (which was not reviewed in the article above) for some time now.  After reading the article above, I can honestly say that Minute Maid is not deceptive in their marketing of this product, however, it has far less pomegranate juice in it that I was aware of.  One plus is that it contains many good for you nutrients like vitamins B12, C, & E and DHA.
