What Did You Expect?: Redeeming the Realities of Marriage
It won’t take long for you to realize that your marriage hasn’t escaped the reality of sin or the brokenness of the world. It’s what you do next that will make all the difference in the world in the character and quality of your marriage. The key to marital unity and love is not romance, rather, it is worship. It is only when I worship God as Creator, Sovereign, and Savior that I will ever love as I should. Have you ever wondered why some couples reach a place of unity, love, and understanding in their marriages while other couples seem trapped in the same struggles year, after year, after year? The surrounding culture would lead us to believe that a marriage of unity, love, and understanding is rooted in romance. Scripture would rather say that a good marriage is the result of worship. Does this confuse you? Then, this marriage conference is for you. Learn how practical these insights are for the everyday issues and situations of a real marriage; and, learn the practical steps that will help couples know how to get from where they are, to where God wants them to be.”

Here are two videos about the conference:

Peter and I traveled to Annapolis, MD over the weekend to attend this marriage seminar by Paul Tripp.  It was wonderfully enriching and humbly rebuking.   His principles are Bible based and God glorifying.  An amazing weekend focusing on God’s design of the marriage relationship!!

The Gospel is what we need!

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Peter posted this quote on his blog and I thought it was a sobering thought that needed to be shared.

“It’s no wonder that self-help books top the charts in Christian publishing and that counseling offices are overwhelmed. Our pride and our neglect of the gospel force us to run from seminar to seminar, book to book, counselor to counselor, always seeking but never finding some secret to holy living.

Most of us have never really understood that Christianity is not a self-help religion meant to enable moral people to become more moral. We don’t need a self-help book; we need a Savior. We don’t need to get our collective act together; we need death and resurrection and the life-transforming truths of the gospel. And we don’t need them just once, at the beginning of our Christian life; we need them every moment of every day.”

Chuck Roast

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

I made this recipe for my family when they came to visit and everyone LOVED it!

2 to 4 lb chuck roast (about 3″ thick)
1 pkg onion soup mix
1 large red onion, sliced into rings
1/2 c. water
3 cloves garlic, mashed
1/2 c. catsup
1/4 c. olive oil

Combine ingredients in ziploc bag and marinate chuck in refrigerator for 2 to 3 hours.

Wrap chuck loosely in aluminun foil with slices of onion above and below, creating a pouch with tightly rolled edges (to seal), with shiny side facing inward.

Place on grill over white hot coals or in oven at 325F degrees for 30 minutes per lb.

Side: Scrub baby potatoes and rub with olive oil. Sprinkle with coarse or sea salt. Wrap in foil. Cook alongside the chuck roast.

Our friends Jane and Ron were married on November 7th.  I had the wonderful privilege of being one of Jane’s bridesmaids!  The weekend was so fun!  We caught up with some old friends, made some new friends, and celebrated Jane and Ron!  The wedding was complete with SIX flower girls all under the age of 4!  So cute!

The 3 Stooges!

On Halloween weekend my family came to visit.  My parents and my sister Kyle and her hubby Joe drove down from NJ to spend the weekend with us in our little apartment.  Lets just say it was a COZY weekend!  Marty was NOT on his best behavior and spent the weekend hissing and growling at anyone within 2 feet of him.  On Saturday we all ventured into the district and went to the American History and Natural History Museums.  Some of the highlights were Julia Child’s Kitchen, the First Ladies Dresses, the Hope Diamond, and the Butterfly Pavilion.  It was a very fun weekend!

Here are the photos from our trip to the museums.

Jane and Ron: engagement photos

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

Our friends Jane and Ron asked us to take engagement pictures in Washington DC for them.  We did this way back in October.  Unfortunately it rained for most of the day and was unusually cold outside!  The weather forced us inside for most of the shots.  We worked with what we had and got some good shots for them.  Most of the photos were taken at the National Cathedral; some at the Capitol and some at the Jefferson Memorial.  It was so fun spending the day with them and celebrating LOVE!

These are my favorites:
