Gabriel turns 1!

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Our friends, Amanda and Garrett, had us over yesterday for some cake and ice cream to celebrate their little guy turning one! The cupcakes were in the shape of bowling pins with a chocolate covered rice crispy bowling ball made by one of the girls from our church.  It was such a fun time celebrating Gabriel!

You can click here to see all the pictures, but these are my favorites:

FREE Rita’s Italian Ice

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

On Saturday March 20th get your FREE cup of Rita’s Italian Ice to celebrate the first day of Spring!

From the Rita’s website:

For the past 17 years, Rita’s has been giving away a free, regular size Italian Ice to each and every guest to mark the first day of spring! This is a sweet date for Italian Ice lovers, as each year, hundreds of thousands of our guests visit Rita’s in search of the first taste of spring.

A Philadelphia-born springtime tradition, the 17th annual Rita’s giveaway was held on Friday, March 20, 2009 from noon to 10 p.m. at participating Rita’s locations. Rita’s guests showed their spring spirit and over 1.2 million cups of Italian Ice were given away in a ten hour period!

We would like to extend a special thank you to all of our guests who were able to enjoy a free Italian Ice during our 2009 First Day of Spring Celebration and we look forward to seeing you again in 2010! Be sure to mark your calendars to celebrate the first day of spring with Rita’s on Saturday, March 20, 2010! This is surely a tasty tradition that you won’t want to miss!

Presto 6-Quart Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker

Probably my favorite kitchen item is my pressure cooker!  The pressure cooker makes wonderfully juicy roasts in half the time that it would take in the oven!  I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

Cuisinart Griddler

This has been a great substitute for a grill.  I use it quite a bit!

Cast Iron Dutch Oven

My parents got me a cast iron dutch oven that is similar to this one.  I love it!  It heats evenly and holds the temperature for a long time.  There is a large range in prices.  My mom got mine from Homegoods.  You can get inexpensive cast iron dutch ovens at Walmart.  They are also sold on AmazonLe Creuset dutch ovens are the more expensive variety and can be found at stores like William Sanoma.

Kitchen Series: Unitaskers

Friday, March 5th, 2010

If you have ever seen the show Good Eats, you are familiar with Alton Brown and his dislike for single-purpose kitchen gadgets.  If you are friends with Alton or know him personally, please don’t tell him about this post.  I love his show, but I unfortunately also love several unitaskers!

Progressive International Onion Chopper

I am not well skilled in chopping, slicing and dicing so I love this gadget for chopping onions. There are some down sides to this product:  cleaning is a pain and it isn’t so great at chopping other veggies… but I will keep it and continue to use it for my onions!

Oxo Good Grips Garlic Press

As I mentioned above, I am not so great at slicing and dicing, so this is a great tool for dicing up garlic! Any garlic press will do I just happen to own the OXO Good Grips one.

Hamilton Beach Single-Serve Blender

This was given to me as a gift for Christmas and I love it!  It is perfect for making a quick smoothie for one!  I usually make one before work and then I can grab it and I am out the door!

Proctor Silex Rice Cooker

I think this is a unitasker that Alton Brown actually approves of! This rice cooker makes awesome rice quickly!
